Star Wars hero quits: Netflix film has had countless problems since 2019
The story of Saulnier’s new film is still largely unknown. According to World of Reel, it is supposed to revolve around an ex-marine who “bone-breaking action sequences“ fights against corrupt police officers. The setting is a small town, says the director in the Film Stories interview.

One of the first signs of life for the film was the casting of Star Wars actor John Boyega in the lead role, which Variety revealed in 2019. But since then production repeatedly descended into chaos.
First, the coronavirus pandemic stopped the film, then Boyega suddenly dropped out after filming had already started again. According to the Hollywood Reporter, family reasons or frustration with the production circumstances were behind the exit.
When is Rebel Ridge coming to Netflix?
