If it is now established that Microsoft has not succeeded with the Xbox Series generation in being on par with PlayStation and its PS5, the American manufacturer is far from having said its last word. Between its new cloud gaming philosophy which consists of saying that any device connected to Game Pass can become an Xbox and the desire to make profitable the numerous studios bought tens of billions of dollars, Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella visibly wish to take advance.
At least that’s what’s being whispered behind the scenes, and more precisely from insider TheGhostOfHope, who specializes in leaks around the Call of Duty license. According to him, Microsoft would be working on its next Xbox, with a release date expected for the end of 2026 and which would have Call of Duty of 2026 as its spearhead. Information that is an open secret, especially since Microsoft’s plans were revealed during the Activision-Blizzard takeover affair and which announced a next gen hybrid console for 2028, with the help of cloud gaming.
With a generation sacrificed, it would therefore not be impossible for the American giant to decide to get ahead with this console that some are already calling Xbox Prime. Given that Microsoft refuses to market an intermediate console like the PS5 Pro, this would allow Microsoft to get a little ahead of the competition, as was the case in 2005 with the Xbox 360, arriving a year and a half earlier than the PS3 on the market.
