The horror survival game Sons of the Forest is currently on more wish lists on Steam than any other game. It will be released in Early Access on February 23rd. MeinMMO explains why so many are waiting for this game.

What kind of game is this? The Forest, one of the best survival games for the PC, was released in 2014. With 95% positive ratings, it’s even one of the best games ever on the platform (via Steam).

With Sons of the Forest, the long-awaited sequel to the horror game is finally here. You embody there apparently a descendant of the protagonist from the first part, who crashes on an island in search of a missing billionaire.

The island is populated with mutants and cannibals who hunt you down. You are now trying to survive. To do this, you build up a base, look for weapons and explore the island to find out what is actually going on there.

Right now, Sons of the Forest is the most wanted game on Steam overall. It even surpassed the much anticipated Starfield.

When will Sons of the Forest be released? Sons of the Forest will be released in Early Access on February 23, 2023. Originally it was planned to publish the game directly, but the developers have postponed the release.

How long Sons of the Forest will remain in Early Access is not yet certain. Years later, The Forest was also released for PS4, but Sons of the Forest is only available for PC for the time being.

What makes Sons of the Forest special? Already in the first part one of the most praised points was the story. Unlike most survival games, The Forest is not a sandbox but a story-driven game.

Depending on the choices you make, you can even unlock different endings to the story. The fans now expect the same from the successor. However, we cannot yet say how many endings and content are in Early Access.

Other already known features include:

  • a building and crafting system that allows you to build your own base
  • Seasons that can affect how opponents behave
  • Sophisticated AI that causes opponents to behave differently based on how you react
  • Co-op for up to 8 players in a lobby
  • NPC companions who support you and who have their own personality
