This vanilla flavored nut is excellent for the heart it reduces

She is called “queen of nuts”.

We have known it for a long time: oilseeds such as nuts, pistachios or pumpkin seeds contain good fats which help protect our cardiovascular health. In addition, they can be consumed in all seasons. One of them, less known than hazelnuts or almonds, is an excellent ally for the heart. Its cardioprotective effect is explained by its interesting lipid profile (rich in monounsaturated fats or omega-9) and its richness in fiber and minerals (potassium, vitamin B, magnesium, etc.) which support cardiac function. Several studies have also confirmed its beneficial effect on cholesterol reduction. A clinical trial available in Internal Archives of Medicine followed 30 volunteers aged 18 to 53 and showed that daily consumption of this type of nut for 30 days could lower total cholesterol levels by 0.10 g/L (or 0.25 mmol/L).

In another study published in the journal Lipidsresearchers asked 17 people with cholesterol levels above the norm to eat these nuts daily (at least 40 g/day), for 4 weeks. At the end of the follow-up, they realized that the consumption of nuts had reduced the level of oxidative stress, thrombosis and inflammation, three parameters which promote the metabolization of cholesterol and the occurrence of cardiovascular and coronary pathologies.

Called “the queen of nuts”, this oilseed with hypocholesterolemic effects is the macadamia nut, a fruit discovered 5,000 years ago by the aborigines in Australia. Widely used in pastries, particularly in cookies and in ice cream flavors, this nut has an undeniable gourmet side, notably thanks to its sweet and buttery flavor, and its aromas of vanilla, coconut or almond.

Like all nuts, it remains high in calories (700 calories per 100 g, more than milk chocolate), so it is better to limit yourself to a portion of 30 grams per day, or a good handful. Ideally, choose plump, light-colored nuts, in the organic sections and from fair trade farming in order to avoid the presence of pesticides and support local producers.
