Here is an idea that promises a total change of scenery, just 1.5 hours away from Madrid. If you are looking for an original getaway off the beaten track, let yourself be tempted by the magic of this unknown Spanish corner.
Direction for this Guadalajara, province of center of Spain which conceals many hidden treasures. Among them, the Aljibe waterfall, also called Pozas de Mallana, is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular. Located in the Sierra de Ayllón, this waterfall in two levels totals a height of more than 10 meters. Its natural setting preserved in fact a destination of choice for hikers.

The waterfall is located on the territory of Campillejo, a charming village of only 17 inhabitants, typical of the region with its slate, wood and stone houses. This hamlet is part of the famous “Ruta de los Pueblos de la Arquitectura negra”, an itinerary through villages with unique architecture, “black villages”. Campillejo is the ideal starting point to explore the Aljibe waterfall.
Two trails allow you to reach this natural gem. The first, 6 km round trip, starts from Roblelacasa. Following a marked path passing through an old bridge, we reach the waterfall in approximately 1h15. The second option, a 9 km loop from El Espinar, also offers a superb point of view from the Mirador of El Espinar. Cyclists can also borrow tracks nearby.
The beauty of the Aljibe waterfall varies over the seasons. In the spring, the flowering of cists colors the landscape, while in the fall, the flamboyant leaves offer a superb contrast with the waters throwing on the rock. In summer, natural basins at the foot of the falls turn into refreshing pools, to the delight of hikers.
