In summer, after a beach vacation, we usually look good and for the lucky ones, golden highlights on our hair. To accelerate this natural highlighted effect, a tip has gone viral on the social network TikTok. But be careful, it can burn your hair.
The lucky ones come back from vacation with a healthy glow, a tanned complexion and hair dotted with highlights, a sort of strands naturally lightened by the sun. For those who are not so lucky, there is a viral trick on TikTok to naturally lighten your hair. But be careful before trying it, because it can dry out and burn your hair.
Put lemon on your hair to lighten it
The tip shared on the social network does not consist of wetting your hair with sea water, but of putting lemon on it. This is actually a false good idea. Lemon is a very acidic fruit. It is therefore also irritating for the skin and hair. If several TikTok videos recommend the juice of this fruit to lighten your locks, you risk in reality drying out or worse, burning your hair.
Lemon attacks the hair scales
Why is this tip not recommended? Simply because lemon contains citric acid. This element, once applied to the hair, will attack its scales to open them, before bleaching the hair. The lemon will therefore destroy the hair from the inside and make it rough and dry.
In addition, the trick works moderately and gives orange highlights, not necessarily very beautiful. To have pretty locks after your vacation, it is better to make an appointment with your hairdresser.
Protect your hair from the sun
At the beach, on the contrary, it is recommended to protect your hair, both from UV rays and from salt or chlorinated water. To do this, add a moisturizing hair cream or oil to your suitcase. Simply rub a little product between your palms and then slide your hands gently through your hair, at the beach or at the pool. There are also sprays or creams that protect your hair from the sun by providing UV protection, just like sunscreen for your skin. Here are the right steps to take to preserve your hair for the start of the school year!
