During pregnancy monitoring, certain treatments are fully reimbursed by Health Insurance. And good news for young mothers: in 2024, this essential treatment can be taken care of well after your delivery.
Pregnancy is punctuated by medical appointments, prenatal visits to the gynecologist or midwife, blood tests and any other examination to ensure the baby’s proper development. The health of the mother-to-be is of course closely monitored. Moreover, pregnant women are invited, from the 4th month of pregnancy, to an oral examination fully covered by Health Insurance. Until now, it could be carried out by a healthcare professional up to 12 days after childbirth, but in 2024, this essential care will be extended beyond that.
Taking care of your teeth when you are expecting a child is indeed essential, because during this period, teeth and gums are weakened. In addition to hormonal upheavals, future mothers are also faced with the risk of oral and dental infections such as gingivitis. Also, if you are prone to vomiting during your pregnancy, be aware that this unfortunate symptom can weaken dental enamel due to gastric acid deposits on the teeth. It is therefore recommended to rinse your mouth well and wait at least an hour before brushing your teeth.
As you will have understood, this appointment with the dentist, fully covered, is therefore an opportunity to take stock of your oral health during or after pregnancy. And if you haven’t had time to make an appointment from the 4th month of pregnancy, there may still be time to go to your dentist.
In fact, this treatment is now covered up to 6 months after your delivery (instead of 12 days). This gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself while learning about the appearance of baby’s first teeth, for example, or the correct actions to adopt when brushing your teeth.
To benefit from this oral and dental appointment, bring your Vitale card and the voucher sent by your Health Insurance, by post or email, at the time of your fourth month of pregnancy and do not delay in making an appointment at your dentist.
