Mosquitoes are back! With this tip, they won’t bother you at night anymore.
Summer is coming and the first warm weather is appearing. If we appreciate this season for outdoor activities, going to the swimming pool, relaxing in the garden, going to the beach, but also enjoying evenings outdoors, it is also synonymous with a well-known scourge: mosquitoes. These annoying insects can turn a pleasant evening and night into a real nightmare. Fortunately, there is a simple and effective trick to keep these unwanted intruders away, with something we all have at home: toilet paper.
Apart from installing mosquito nets, which are not very aesthetic, expensive, and often difficult to install, it is almost impossible to prevent these flying insects from entering the house. It is then often a war at bedtime to get rid of these little creatures if we want to succeed in sleeping. Here is a simple tip: soak pieces of toilet paper with essential oils, known for their insect repellent properties. Some are particularly effective against mosquitoes.
But be careful to choose the essential oils carefully. Lemongrass, eucalyptus, lavender and peppermint are among the most effective against mosquitoes. They contain volatile compounds that these insects hate.
Take a toilet paper roll and cut a few sheets. Soak them with a few drops of the chosen essential oil. You can also mix several oils for a combined action. Then place the soaked sheets in the areas where you want to keep mosquitoes away. Strategic places include windows, doors, corners of rooms and even near your bed. Essential oils evaporate over time, so it is necessary to repeat the operation every day to maintain their effectiveness.
Why does it work? Mosquitoes are extremely sensitive to odors. Compounds in essential oils interfere with their ability to detect carbon dioxide and lactic acid, chemicals emitted by humans that attract mosquitoes. By disrupting their olfactory system, essential oils disorient them and keep them away from the source of the odor.
