This police series in only 7 episodes is not to be missed this week in streaming.
With so many new shows coming out every week in streaming, it’s hard to know which program to focus on. Instead of watching the same comforting sitcom for the umpteenth time, starting this Friday, June 17, you can discover a police series in just seven episodes that has all the qualities to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Laura Lippman and published in 2022, The voice of the lake tells the mirror story of the intertwined destinies of two women in 1960s Baltimore. First, that of Maddie, a perfect wife and mother who wants to take control of her life and regain her freedom. Reconnecting with her dreams of journalism, she takes on a case that has been treated with indifference and takes an interest in the life of a second character, Cleo, a black woman whose body is found in the city’s lake. In love with freedom, she will trample on that of others, without worrying about the consequences.
The voice of the lake is therefore a thrilling detective series in which the death of a little girl and then that of Cléo must be elucidated, but also a thriller that paints a mirror portrait of 1960s society by dealing with issues of women’s emancipation, racism, anti-Semitism, relations between social classes and sexism, all brilliantly embodied by Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram. It is a rich series full of mysteries that viewers will be able to dissect over the course of the season.
The voice of the lake is made up of only seven episodes, each lasting about an hour, making it very quick to binge-watch for those in a hurry. They are available for streaming on the Apple TV+ platform. Accessible by subscription, its content is also included in all Canal+ offers, directly on the MyCanal application.
