It is at this service station that motorists can find the cheapest litre of Unleaded-95 in France.
It has been a long time since motorists have seen such low prices at gas stations. And they are certainly not going to complain, as they have been hit hard by the inflation of petroleum product prices since the start of the war in Ukraine in March 2022. Today, after several weeks of significant decline, the prices displayed at the pump are roughly equivalent to those before the conflict broke out on European soil, that is to say two and a half years ago.
We are therefore a long way from the 2 euros per liter of gasoline, and almost as much for diesel, which cost owners of thermal vehicles almost 100 euros to fill up. The back-to-school period, sometimes conducive to the rise in fuel prices, has so far had no impact on the general decline. Thus, in mid-September, the average price of a liter of diesel in France stood at 1.58 euros – a first since January 7, 2022 – when that of Unleaded 95 sold at 1.67 euros.
While all service stations are taking advantage of the fall in the price of a barrel of oil to offer cheaper fuel to their customers, some price differences remain quite significant from one region to another, but also from one brand to another. So much so that while the average price of a liter of Unleaded 95 – the best-selling fuel in France – is currently around 1.67 euros, one service station is selling it much cheaper. Where is it? In a small town in Finistère, which is a delight for many Breton drivers.
It is in Folgoët, 25 kilometers from Brest, that it is possible to buy a liter of Unleaded 95 at Leclerc for only 1.57 euros. No one does better in France, and at this price, motorists can fill their 50-liter tank for less than 80 euros. It is also the only service station in France, along with the one in Grand-Fougeray, still in Brittany but this time in Ille-et-Vilaine, to display a liter of SP 95 at a price lower than 1 euro 60.
That’s roughly 40 cents less than two years ago, or a saving of 20 euros on a 50-litre tank. If you live near Le Folgoët, a small town with fewer than 4,000 inhabitants, you now know where to go when it’s time to fill up.
