This basic maintenance gesture allows you to keep your car’s windshield clean for much longer.
Who likes driving with a dirty windshield? Dust, water marks, crushed insects, bird droppings are all dirt that reduces the driver’s vision, which can prevent him from seeing the road correctly, but also other vehicles, pedestrians or traffic signs. Fortunately, cars are required to be equipped with windshield wipers whose function is to clean the windshield to allow the driver to maintain good visibility of their surroundings. But for them to be effective, the windshield wipers must also be clean. Which can only be the case if they are minimally maintained.
When traces remain on the window of your vehicle after the windshield wipers, there is a problem. Either your wiper blades are too worn and it’s time to change them. Either, and this is most often the case, they are dirty and only add impurities to the windshield. Many motorists never think about cleaning their windshield wiper blades, or they put it off as if it would take hours. However, maintaining your windshield wipers is simple and quick, much more so than when it comes to washing the bodywork, cleaning the seats or shining the aluminum rims.
Cleaning experts advise washing your windshield wipers once a month to avoid the accumulation of impurities on the rubber, this small strip that comes into direct contact with the windshield. It is this which can leave traces once the window is wiped. It is therefore what must be maintained regularly to keep an impeccable windshield and be able to drive in the best conditions. And for that, nothing could be simpler. No need to go buy a ready-made product in store for a few euros.
Simply dilute a little white vinegar or dishwashing detergent in a small container with hot water and then dip a cloth in the mixture. Once the cloth is soaked, pass it along the entire length of the rubber blades. When they are cleaned, they should be wiped with another dry cloth. And that’s it!
In a few seconds – you also have to remember to do this at the rear – your car’s windshield wiper blades will be completely clean and will be able to ensure proper cleaning of the windshield and rear window. White vinegar, like dishwashing liquid, has a strong degreasing power which allows you to remove all the dirt that gets deposited on the rubber blades over the days. Hence the interest in repeating the operation regularly enough to prevent them from becoming clogged too quickly.
