Produced in Canada between 2013 and 2014, Darknet is an anthology series. In other words, individual, self-contained stories are told. Horror fans know this from American Horror Story, for example, which tells a different story in each season. Darknet is probably most reminiscent of Netflix’s technology horror Black Mirror.
Responsible for the just as creative as fucked up insider tip for a series is director Vincenzo Natali, who already caused nightmares with the body horror film Splice – The Gene Experiment. Nevertheless, hardly anyone knows Darknet. Fortunately, that can be changed for free: the series can currently be streamed on Freevee.
Darknet takes you to the abysmal side of the internet at Amazon
At the core of the 6 episodes is the idea that the Evil in man shows above all in anonymity. Specifically: On a website called Darknet, where killing videos and other shocking images are shared, tips on disposing of corpses are requested, or organs are offered for sale. Like the real dark web, only bundled into one website – making the series more realistic than one would wish. Only gradually does it emerge how the often surprisingly ending individual fates are linked.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a businessman who suddenly finds mysterious clues in his locker, a young woman whose apartment is piling up evidence of an intruder, or a delivery driver who’s not sure whether the guy from the online forum is just a troll or not really is a psychopath. They all seem to lead normal lives that grow more threatening by the minute until the situation escalates.
Darknet catches you in the 25 to 28 minute long episodes again and again ice cold and undermines classic horror clichés. A real insider tip that not only makes you paranoid about your own laptop.
So you can stream the horror series for free
Darknet is available on Freevee, Prime Video’s free offering. You need an Amazon account, but you don’t have to pay any subscription fees. The service is financed by advertising videos that are played in the stream.
