Released in 2002, the cult comedy of Alain Chabat, with Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu, is the adaptation of the comic strip of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
Released in 2002, Asterix and Obelix: Cleopatra mission is the second cinematographic adaptation of the adventures of the irreducible Gallic (except for cartoons). It is written and produced by Alain Chabat And adapts the famous comic strip by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. After playing the duo in Asterix and Obelix against Caesar by Claude Zidi (1999), Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu re -work in the roles of Asterix and Obelix.
After making 14 million admissions when it was released, Asterix and Obelix is always considered the best adaptation of the adventures of the two Gauls by the public, and regularly appears in the rankings of the best comedies French of all time. This is due to the very identifiable humor of Alain Chabat, inherited from dummies, to his cast (Jamel DebbouzeMonica Bellucci, Claude Rich, Gérard Darmon …) and the improvisations of the casting, entry into popular culture. This is particularly the case of the monologue of Otis, a scene that has become cult and regularly cited by fans!
“You know, I don’t think there is good or bad situation …” This monologue of Otis in Asterix and Obelix: Cleopatra mission is cult for a generation of fans of Alain Chabat’s film, some even being able to reproduce it word for word. And yet, know that he did not appear as it is in the scenario! Indeed, Édouard Baer improvised a large part of this monologue on the shooting of the film. In January 2002, in the columns of the first magazine, Alain Chabat and Jamel Debbouze returned to the subject: “Even if it seems to be the brothel, it is still a little specific” to achieve a comedy to this millimeter.
Debbouze, who then started a beautiful conversion to the cinema, explained that he could “go into a spin only if there is a solid base”. As for the monologue of Édouard Baer, who plays the Otis scribe in Asterix and Obélix Mission Cleopatra, “he really had only two or three lines of text and an ad lib”. The term “ad lib” comes from the Latin ad libitum which means at will. Édouard Baer therefore had a work base on which to rely and the guarantee that the cameras would continue to turn as long as he would have something to say. The monologue was then mounted to keep the best catch. And the rest, as you know, has entered history
