This rice very popular in Leclerc supermarkets contains insect larvae

It is a bag of rice known to customers of Leclerc stores and sold under the “Reference brand”. But some batches contain insect larvae. A few details allow them to be identified.

A product recall affects customers of E.Leclerc supermarkets, with the discovery of insect larvae in a popular Basmati rice. The brand in question, “Comptoir du Grain”, is in reality a “Reference brand”, that is to say the distributor brand of the supermarket chain. Suffice it to say that it is widely consumed by customers looking for products at reasonable prices. But it had to withdraw several batches of its Basmati rice in 1 kg bags from sale, following the discovery of the presence of larvae and insects in its products.

How do you know if you potentially purchased this rice? First of all, check that you have Basmati type rice in a one kilo package. Other types of rice and other quantities of products are not affected. If you purchased this specific type of product between August 28, 2023 and December 13, 2023 then you are potentially affected. Start by checking the use-by date. The incriminated batches bear minimum durability dates of 08/16/2025 and 08/17/2025. Then check the barcode to see if you find the additional code 09 after the barcode. If so, you are concerned.

For consumers who have purchased this product, it is imperative not to consume it and return it to the point of sale. E.Leclerc, aware that the product is no longer consumable, offers a full refund and has made its consumer service available to customers who would like to check whether they have an unsuitable product or not. This service can be reached by telephone from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 0800 865 286. This is a free number which does not charge for the service or the call.

The recall procedure is scheduled until February 15, 2024. After this date, it will no longer be possible to return the product to the store to request a refund. You will then have to throw it away. For more information, consumers should contact E.Leclerc directly or can consult the product recall site set up by the government (“Consumer Rappel”). RappelConso, the single site for dangerous product alerts, has been accessible to the public since April 2021. In the event of a recall of products intended for a final consumer, professionals must make the declaration on the RappelConso site. Consumers can then consult the declared product recalls.
