Persistent, deep-rooted weeds can quickly become a nightmare and be difficult to get rid of, especially if they grow in the gaps between decks and paving stones. They seep between the cracks in the slabs, invade the joints and can make your outdoor space look unkempt. Eliminating weeds can be difficult, so gardeners often resort to chemical weedkillers.
However, instead of using chemical weed killers, there are natural remedies you can try. They are very effective. Some of the most common natural weed killers include white vinegar, salt, and dishwashing liquid. An even simpler and free solution, just as effective, exists. It is not to tear them off by hand, but to use boiling water.
This method is ideal for eliminating weeds from terraces and paving stones. It is most effective on young weeds, but is an excellent natural contact herbicide that does not use harsh chemicals.
Start by boiling water in a kettle or saucepan. You will need enough to cover weed-infested areas on your patio. Identify areas where weeds are present. Focus on cracks between patio slabs, edges of flower beds, and any other areas where unwanted weeds grow.
Carefully pour the boiling water directly onto the weeds. Be sure to target only the plants you want to eliminate, avoiding pouring water on neighboring plants you want to preserve. Some weeds may require multiple treatments to be completely eliminated. If regrowth occurs, repeat the process until the weeds disappear completely.
If weeds grow in large groups, cut them back so you can reach their taproots. Applying more heated water to the roots will increase the chances of permanent results.
