This Polish detective film surprised everyone by arriving at the top of the most viewed feature films of the moment on Netflix. He even dethrones a film with Jennifer Lopez.
While it is sometimes possible to predict the success of certain productions highly anticipated by Netflix subscribers, such as The Bridgertons Chronicle Lately, certain fictions sometimes make their surprise arrival in the top of the most viewed programs of the moment. This is the case of this new Polish detective film which, despite fairly mixed reviews, sits in first place in the top 10 in France and around the world.
Directed by Adrian Panez, The colors of evil : Red follows the investigation of prosecutor Bilski, who seeks to make the link between two cases and discover a murderer. Indeed, two women were murdered in exactly the same circumstances, but 15 years apart. He is convinced, there is no chance that this double crime is a coincidence. In the casting, it is the actors little known in France, but active in Poland who take the lead: Jakub Gierszal (The suicide room, Braking the limits), Maja Ostaszewska (The In-laws, Green Border) and Zofia Jastrzebska (Infamia, My Cosmonaut).
If the synopsis of The colors of evil : Red is enticing, although classic for a thriller, the opinions of spectators who were able to discover the film when it was released are more mixed. The feature film obtains a score of 5.8/10 on Sens Critique, 56% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and 2.9/5 on Allociné. If some praise “very complex characters” and a “clever film”, with a “very well-edited script” which “keeps you in suspense”, others deplore “a staging worthy of a French TV film from the 80s” , “bad” actors and a “banal story”.
The opinions are extremely clear-cut, but that does not prevent the feature film from making a small place at the top of the Netflix rankings which is in first position of the most viewed films of the moment throughout the world, according to the top established by the streaming platform. However, it remains to be seen whether this is an ephemeral success which will run out of steam after a few days, or whether Colors of Evil: Red will become a next Netflix hit.
