Although often forgotten, this place in the house deserves regular attention to ensure a clean and healthy house. So think about it during your next cleaning!
Keeping an always impeccable house is not obvious, and even the most meticulous among us often miss this place when they clean up. Invisible on a daily basis, this area, however, accumulates a lot of dirt and dust, and quickly becomes a nest with microbes and allergens if it is not maintained.
When you clean up, you usually think of dusting the furniture, vacuuming, cleaning the shower and the sink, or cleaning the windows. Very often, we forget, however, this little accessible place often located in height: the lights. Whether suspensions, ceiling lights or lamps, these elements are often overlooked, while they require regular maintenance for health, comfort, but also aesthetics.

It is important to clean them every month for several reasons. First of all, by cleaning them, you get rid of allergens and dust, and thus improve the air quality of your accommodation. You will also gain brightness. A lampshade and clean bulbs diffuse a more effective light. Another advantage: an dirty luminaire sometimes consumes more energy, because dust reduces lighting clarity.
If the lights are so dirty, it is simply because they are permanently exposed to dust, to particles in suspension in the air and sometimes even with fat (especially in the kitchen). Being located in height, they are not immediately visible and end up accumulating a layer of dust that alters their radiance and reduces their light efficiency. In addition, bulbs and lampshades attract insects, which can leave unavailable residues.
Ideally, a monthly cleaning is recommended to avoid excessive accumulation of dust. Deep cleaning can be done every three to six months for more difficult to access lights. Lighting is not complicated, but it requires a little method.
To avoid any risk, it is better to turn off the light and, if necessary, to unplug the lamps. Dust the bulbs and lampshades with microfiber cloth or an antistatic feather. This is enough to remove dust on the surface. For fabric lampshades, a low-power vacuum cleaner can be used.
Glass or plastic lampshades can be washed with soapy water and well dried before being replaced. Also, don’t forget to dust the bulbs, cables and supports that also accumulate dust. Also, remember to clean other areas often forgotten such as switches, door handles, frames, curtains, remote controls, phones, but also the interior of the garbage cans.
