It is “pro-inflammatory” which is excessive for the joints.
The basic food principle when you suffer from joint pain is to adopt a so-called “anti-inflammatory” diet. An anti-inflammatory diet, rich in vegetables and fruits, embellished with spices such as turmeric and ginger, and supplemented by antioxidants from red fruits, artichokes, legumes, dark chocolate or even green tea, constitutes an asset for joint health. To appease the joints, you must also take care to reduce to reduce its contributions to omega-6 while increasing omega-3.
Omega-6 and omega-3 are part of the large family of polyunsaturated or “lipid” fatty acids (fat). Indispensable for the proper functioning of the body, they cannot be synthesized by our body and must therefore be brought by food. But “An excessive contribution in omega-6 (pro-inflammatory), combined with insufficient omega-3 consumption (anti-inflammatory), can worsen inflammation and therefore joint pain, in particular at the knee level” warns Nathalie Paya-Charron, naturopath in Paris.
Modern food is often too rich in omega-6. “The ideal ratio should be 4: 1, four times more omega-6 than omega-3. However, in our Western diet, this ratio sometimes reaches 15: 1, or even 20: 1” the expert tells us. In question? Overconsumption of oils rich in omega-6. These oils are omnipresent in processed industrial products, prepared dishes and fried fries. “Reducing oils rich in omega-6, in particular those from the food industry, is an essential first step” estimates Nathalie Paya-Charron. The one that contains the most omega 6 is grape seed oil (around 70-75%). Then come sunflower oil (60-70 % omega-6), corn oil (50-60 % omega-6) and soy oil (50-55 % omega-6). It is also advisable to limit the consumption of meats from industrial farming, often too rich in omega-6 to preserve its joints.
On the other hand, it is necessary to increase its sources of omega-3, such as fatty fish such as salmon, sardine and mackerel, as well as vegetable oils of linen, rapeseed and nuts or the seeds of chia which bring a beneficial balance for the organism. “This rebalancing also improves cardiovascular and brain health” underlines the naturopath. So many good reasons to adopt these new reflexes without delay on your plate.
