Applying sunscreen to your face may seem like a no-brainer… But we make a common mistake by going too fast. Here’s the right move to stay well protected, according to a dermatologist.
Protecting your face from the sun by using sun protection every day is THE right thing to do from the first rays, to preserve your skin. But the application responds to a basic rule, which we tend to forget. So we would all make the same mistake.
These small areas that we frequently forget
This error is that of the application. Because in most cases, we pour a dab of cream directly into the palms of our hands, which we warm, before spreading it on the face (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, etc.). But this app is flawed, according to Carrie Gross, co-founder of skincare brand Dr. Dennis Gross. This reminds us that by doing this, we neglect certain areas such as the nostrils and the contour of the nose, which would therefore be more exposed. The neck is also one of the forgotten areas.
The method for uniformly applying your protection
Luckily, New York-based dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross reveals his method for even application and maximum protection. This involves no longer placing the cream in the palm of your hands, before spreading it, but placing sun protection points on all the areas to be protected: the forehead, the cheekbones, the sides of the nose, therefore, the base of the ears or even the neck. Next comes the display, when all areas are covered with dots.
The doctor also reminds that a single application in the morning is not enough to protect you all day. An application every two hours, in SPF50, especially if you have lunch outside for example, is necessary.
