The Easter holidays are fast approaching and many French people are looking for relaxing stays. However, most cannot let go. Explanations.

According to a study carried out by Valdys among 1000 French people, 70% of French people say they cannot arrive “to let go” on vacation. For what mysterious reasons? Doctissimo answers you.

The mental load is always present during the holidays

The fault of our great enemy… The mental load.

Indeed, “three quarters of respondents say they are unable to let go due to a lack of too much mental load“, reveals the Valdys press release.

And for good reason: before going on vacation, you still need to organize it.

A tedious ordeal which requires “between 2 hours and 4 hours for almost 60% of vacationers“.

The mental load also continues during the holidays with daily time dedicated to organization and logistics (such as toddler activities, shopping, meal preparation, laundry machines, etc.) which “varies from 15 min to 1 hour per day for 80% of French people, between 1h30 and 7h per week“, the study further reveals.

A “daily management“which continues during the holidays, since for 54% of French people”managing food shopping, organizing activities and managing household chores are the elements that weigh the most during their leave“.

Even when going to the beach, you must not forget the sunscreen, the little pots for the youngest, the snowshoes and beach towels, the picnic… The moment of relaxation can quickly turn into -extending do list.

Are women more tired after returning from vacation?

Another interesting fact: gender seems to influence the appreciation of post-vacation effects.

Indeed, according to another survey carried out by Ifop among 2004 people, 70% of women in heterosexual couples say they are “tired” and 53% say they are “stressed” after their vacation, compared to 57 and 39%. of their spouses.

In fact, only 38% were able to “rest as they had imagined before leaving“.

I see women who have had a good vacation, but they may complain about having cooked, about having orchestrated the vacation. Some are able to say that their husbands help them, do their part, but this is not the case for everyone“, confided to BFMTV Aurélia Schneider, psychiatrist specializing in mental load.

Women would therefore increasingly take care of laundry, shopping and even preparing meals.

How can you let go in this context?

I advise women to behave like men, from time to time to let things slip, to let go“, concludes the psychiatrist.

In other words, by letting the youngest play in dirty shorts or by ordering pizza in the evening. Your mind will thank you!
