How do burglars spot your home? Thieves monitor your presence and your comings and goings for a few days before taking action. They like to know your habits to be sure not to cross paths with you. To succeed in their theft every time, they also have a very effective method which is to mark their territory to ensure your prolonged absence. This new technique is becoming more and more widespread.
If you see a sticker with a locksmith’s contact details on or next to your door, or on your mailbox, be wary. Very often, it is not a locksmith company specializing in troubleshooting that leaves you their contact details, but burglars. They can also leave a small cross as a mark, for example.
So when they come back a few days later, if the sticker is still there, you are most likely away and the coast is clear. If the sticker has been removed, you are there. If you see this type of sticker on your door, you better remove it quickly.
How to do it in your absence? Simply ask your neighbors or those around you to regularly check that burglars have not spotted your home for a future burglary by leaving a sticker, a symbol such as a cross or any other code on the door or wall.
So, if someone sees a sticker or a mark, they can peel it off or erase the trace. When the burglar comes back to do the deed, they will think that you are at home and this is likely to strongly discourage them from breaking in. Don’t hesitate to check in front of your neighbors’ door if you know that they are away, this could prevent them from having malicious visitors during their holidays.
