But the Earth is not changing just because of the climate. Thanks to the theory of plate tectonics, we know that the Earth’s surface is constantly being reshaped. Although we mere mortals do not notice these subtle changes, if you could live long enough, you would witness the merging of the continents.
About 200 million years ago, all the continents were united in a single mass called Pangea. And guess what? It will happen again! In 250 million years, New Pangea will dominate. New Zealand and Scotland will be the only isolated territories. Most islands, such as Australia, will join other large territories, while Japan will merge with China, South Korea and Taiwan. Europe will unite with the Middle East and Africa. The new summit of the world will no longer be in the Himalayas but in a mountain range that will be born when Florida and Georgia collide with South Africa and Namibia.
