In just four days, this Italian film took everyone by surprise and rose to the top of Netflix’s daily charts ahead of blockbusters.
Netflix’s most-watched programs rankings are full of surprises every day. While some very popular series quickly rise to the top, other lesser-known productions still manage to make a name for themselves and arouse the curiosity of the streaming platform’s subscribers. This is the case of this Italian thriller, released only on July 11, which is now No. 1 in the top most-watched films of the moment, ahead of blockbusters Super Mario Bros. The Movie And Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Directed by Renato de Maria, Vanished into the night tells the story of a couple, Pietro and Elena, in the middle of a divorce who see their children, whose custody they are fighting over, mysteriously disappear while they were under the supervision of their father, in a completely isolated country house. They quickly discover that their children have been kidnapped, and that they have only 36 hours to pay the ransom. A race against time begins. But who is guilty? And why are all his relatives starting to behave strangely?
Netflix subscribers were thus curious about this Italian film with multiple twists and turns, a remake of the Argentinian film Seventh floor (on Prime Video), carried by Riccardo Scarmacio (Dalida, John Wick 2 Caravaggio) and Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Annabelle).
However, there was little promotion by the platform before its release, and the viewers’ reviews on Allociné remain relatively mixed. The viewers thus praise “a thriller that keeps us in suspense”, with “all the ingredients” and “a necessary tension”, even if the “mechanics are known, it’s well done”. Other Internet users who posted their review on the French review aggregator deplored that we “guessed the story from the beginning” because of “a weak and absurd scenario”, especially “its somewhat abracadabra ending”.
Vanished into the night However, it seems to be able to sufficiently distract Netflix subscribers for an evening, as evidenced by its number 1 spot in the top most-watched programs. The question now remains how long it will continue to reign at the top.
