Far from the overcrowded Santorini, this small island is still preserved from mass tourism and has famous inhabitants.
Santorini is a dream with its famous white and blue houses clinging to the cliff and its volcano, an image that has also conquered Instagram for several years. But in the summer, the postcard turns into a nightmare with thousands of tourists disembarking every day from cruise ships. Taking the famous shot at the top with the plunging view of the Mediterranean can then take long hours in full sun and over a more or less organized queue!
Far from this hell, the Cyclades nevertheless contain more secret islands that have preserved their old-world charm. This is the case of Paros, located just a stone’s throw from Santorini. With its small typical villages, its golden sand beaches and its hills dotted with windmills, Paros offers a taste of Greek paradise. But for an even more exclusive experience, head to its little sister Antiparos!
Connected to Paros by a ferry, Antiparos has nothing to envy its famous neighbors. It also offers small mountain ranges, beautiful coves with turquoise waters and its authentic villages. The small village of Kastro, reserved for pedestrians, is not to be missed, especially during the bougainvillea season in bloom. The hiking trails and the famous cave are also worth exploring. As for beaches, we will mention the sandy beaches of Psaraliki in the south of the island or Soros while those in the north like in Monastiria will attract more diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.
But the other advantage of Antiparos is its attendance. The island is still spared from mass tourism. Only a few visitors make the round trip from Paros for the day. Enough to enjoy in complete peace and quiet this little corner of paradise that has caught the eye of international stars. This is particularly the case for the American actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, of Greek origin. They even acquired a luxurious holiday home on the island. The couple, who obtained Greek nationality in 2020, spend every summer there and regularly share photos of their escapades through the Cyclades on social networks.
