In contrast to other European countries, we are not used to strikes in the Netherlands. That seems to be different lately. A small selection from last month: bus drivers, Etos employees, mail deliverers and employees from the beverage trades went on strike. That was sometimes quite rigorous: for example, last Thursday and Friday you might not be able to go to work or school by bus. Is our old-fashioned polder model – conducting consultations in which each party ultimately compromises – under pressure?
