Christmas, Christmas, rainy Christmas.
If you’re hoping that Santa will bring snow, you’ll have to think again.
– The forecast for a white Christmas does not look promising, says Mikael Luhr, metrologist at Klart.
The countdown to Christmas Eve has begun – and now the weather forecast brings terrible Christmas news.
The white Christmas is threatened by rain and dew in several parts of the country.
– The real cold will be replaced by really mild weather after the weekend, so the forecast for a white Christmas does not look promising. But there is still a long way to go until Christmas Eve and the situation can change, says Mikael Luhr, meteorologist at Klart.
Here you get snow – here you get thaw
Next week, a lot of rain is expected in Svealand, Götaland and a bit up over the Norrland coast.
As late as the last days before Christmas, you can expect 5–7 plus degrees in the far south. And anyone who is in Svealand and the southernmost part of Norrland can in any case count on a couple of plus degrees in the air.
– So far it has been colder than normal and now next week it will instead be a couple of degrees warmer than normal, says Mikael Luhr.
But snow lovers in Norra dalarna and Jämtland have nothing to fear.
– The weather is followed by moist air and then there can be a lot of snow right here. But further south than that it will thaw and then it will be uncertain how much snow will remain by Christmas, he says and continues:
– Further north it looks like it will be a white Christmas. It looks like there will be snow, and even more during the Christmas holiday.
That’s how your Christmas weekend will be
For those who look forward to cozy and suitably cold walks during the Christmas holiday, there are various offers. The temperature in Götaland will be around 2–3 degrees along the coast. And on Öland and Gotland you can even expect a few more degrees.
– In the inner parts of Götland the temperature will be around zero, says Mikael Luhr.
But in Dalafjällen and the northernmost parts of Värmland, it can be colder than that – down to minus 5.
– For Norrland, it is starting to change to northerly winds, with snow forecast in many places during the Christmas weekend. Expect 10-15 minus in northern Norrland.
The hottest and coldest of Christmas
But it will be even colder locally in northern Lapland. It looks like it will get colder throughout the country during Christmas.
– It can be as much as 15-20 minus there. Terribly cold, says Mikael Luhr.
He believes that it is more difficult to predict the Christmas heat.
– It depends on what happens to the air in the south, but as it looks right now, it will be warmest on the west coast, Gotland or southern Scania. There you get a warming effect from the sea that can produce more than 5 plus degrees, depending on how cold the air gets and where the winds are coming from.
