It’s been seven years since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters. The third part about the Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine is the last film from the sci-fi franchise to date. That should change now. The streaming service Paramount+ has one commissioned a new Star Trek film given.
As the Hollywood Reporter reports, it is not about Star Trek 4 with Pine and Co. Instead, a project awaits us that originally announced as a series became: Star Trek: Section 31. This is a spin-off of the 2017 series Star Trek: Discovery starring Michelle Yeoh.
New Star Trek Movie: Michelle Yeoh returns in Section 31 as Emperor Philippa Georgiou
Star Trek: Section 31 will not be released in cinemas. The film is being developed as an original for the Paramount+ streaming offering. Yeoh returns as Emperor Philippa Georgiou back and joins a secret division of Starfleet. This division is the eponymous Section 31.

Craig Sweeny is writing the screenplay and Olatunde Osunsanmi is directing. Both are very familiar with the Star Trek universe. Before Section 31, they worked on Discovery. Now tell them history in film form further. The timing of the Section 31 announcement is no coincidence: Discovery will end Season 5 in 2024.

Star Trek: Section 31 has already come a long way. The project was discussed as a series for the first time in 2018, before the offshoot became quieter in recent years. Now it’s being made into a movie. That might take some time. It’s very likely that the Section 31 movie will be after the Discovery finale 2024 or 2025 appears at Paramount+.
