Stig Salming has had a whirlwind year.
But he continues to keep busy – with the Börje Salming ALS Foundation, for example.
– I stand up for everything that comes in that way, for the sake of the good cause, says Stig to Sportbibeln.
Börje Salming was not the only skilled hockey player in the Salming family. Big Brother Path Hymn he also appeared in Kiruna AIF. As a 21-year-old, Stig moved to Brynäs, where he played for 13 years.
Stig’s career
Stig Salming played in Tre Kronor for five years and made 81 international appearances. With the national team, he won WC silver and two WC bronzes. With Brynäs, Stig won six SM golds.
In 1981, Kirunasonen was forced to end his hockey career at the age of 34, due to problems with his knees. Then he immediately became an assistant coach in Brynäs. The following year, Stig became head coach, which he remained for five years.

It has now been many years since Stig Salming was involved in hockey at the highest level, and life looks different today.
– I sold my part of a company already when I was 62 years old, and have not gone back to any professional activity since then. So I’ve had a good retired life, you could say, at the same time that I’ve been involved in a few different things in the meantime, he says to Sportbibeln.
Life today
What are those things?
– Currently, we are launching the “Hockeynavigator”, where we will help young people who have landed a little wrong or for whom things are going wrong. If they have been injured, or whatever problems they get, we should be a part of trying to help them right. It is focused on hockey and the fine young people we have in Sweden take it upon themselves to play hockey. I am a so-called “patron” in this business. So I’ve been doing that and contributing my thoughts, and I’ll be there for a while.
– Then I’m a little involved in Brynäs, where I participate, try to make a difference and give my views when they want.

It has been a year since the great sadness when Stig lost his little brother Börje. It was one of three deaths within 14 months that had affected Stig Salming tremendously.
His wife Lena died of cancer and his mother Karin fell asleep shortly after Börje’s death. Now he tries to keep himself as busy as possible to take his mind off the sadness.
– Of course, I am involved in Börje’s ALS foundation. I’m there and help as much as possible, for the good cause, so to speak. Those are the three things that I’m a little involved in and that take up some of my time. You get the chance to meet some nice people, and you keep your head moving a little anyway, he says with a laugh.
Börje’s foundation
What do you do at the ALS Foundation and how is it going?
– To the extent that the foundation thinks I can be of use, in connection with meeting people and so on, I have then chosen to run. I go around with a concert that goes around Sweden, with a group of artists who will be in six different ice rinks. It is completely focused on bringing in as much money as possible for the foundation, to fix resources that can give the researchers the opportunity to be able to find a cure for ALS.

– That is what is in the present tense, so to speak, then things appear all the time. I know that in round 21 in all series it will be noticed with Börje, who had number 21 on his shirt in Toronto and the national team. So there will be such events that will appear, and as time permits, I will put up with everything that comes in that way, simply for the sake of the good cause, says Stig Salming.
