MPKK military expert Pasi Hirvonen estimates that Ukraine will receive new Patriot anti-aircraft systems from its allies during the spring.
The air defense systems that Ukraine needs could be found in the West, if there is a will to send them. That’s what the head of the National Defense University’s military skills department, colonel, thinks Pasi Hirvonen in Monday’s A studio.
Ukraine currently has three Patriot anti-aircraft systems, and Germany promised a fourth earlier this month. Ukraine has said it needs at least seven new systems. There are about a hundred of them in the Western countries.
According to Hirvonen, the need for seven systems and their uses have probably been accurately calculated in Ukraine. However, it remains to be seen whether the countries supporting Ukraine will send as many systems as the country has hoped for.
– Probably more than four will be there in the coming months.
Ukraine now desperately needs a boost to its air defenses to protect its cities and energy system from devastating Russian strikes. Last Monday, the responsible ministers of the EU countries discussed supporting Ukraine’s air defense, but they did not tell the public about concrete aid decisions.
