SMHI has issued warnings in several parts of the country due to the storm Pia that reached Sweden. During Friday evening, it is the messiest in parts of the east coast and over Gotland, says TV4’s meteorologist Lovisa Svanberg.
– We have several warnings for snowfall. In some locations there is wind in combination with snowfall, especially in Uppland. There is occasionally a strong northerly wind. Over Gotland, the warning remains through Saturday. In the other areas, it fades away until Saturday morning, she says in Efter fem.
There will be 9 to 15 centimeters of snow in the yellow areas and 20 to 25 centimeters of fresh snow in the orange areas.
– Over Gotland it will be the messiest in the near future. The wind will occasionally reach gale force, especially in the gusts.
The situation in traffic
There have been several accidents on the roads during Friday and those who can wait to travel should do so, urges Bengt Olsson, press manager of the Swedish Transport Administration.
– It has been very noisy, he says and adds:
– My one daughter was going to Östergötland today and I asked her to wait until Saturday. During the Saturday morning, it is much better if you are going south. Then the snow and the wind will follow to the north for a while.
Urges: Stay in line!
In terms of traffic, there has been the biggest problem in Östergötland, Sörmland, northern Stockholm and Uppland – up to Gävle and Sundsvall.
– There are plenty of queues, and stay in the queue! Do not try to overtake. It is snowing and will remain so for the rest of the evening.
There are over two million vehicles in traffic these days, says Bengt Olsson.
– You will meet many friends out on the roads, so keep your distance and reduce your speed.
Bengt Olsson also raises a finger of warning for being in too much of a hurry home after the Christmas celebration.
– Then you make the bad decisions. So far, I hope you make good decisions by Christmas Eve.
It is very windy here
Along the coastal stretch in western Scania and southern Halland there is an orange warning – a second on the three-point scale – for high water levels. It is also very windy.
– The wind is increasing and at the same time we have a rising water level. In Malmö harbor it is 1.2 meters above normal. There are many floods on the coast of Scania and Halland, says TV4’s reporter Mikael Nilsson in Efter fem.
