This is the only Christmas market where elves and legends

The village which hosts this Christmas market becomes completely magical for the occasion. Something to amaze children and adults alike!

It’s well known that Christmas markets are essential as the holidays approach, and many cities in France offer them. Although most of the stands look the same, with traditional products and decor that immerses us in the atmosphere, it is still rare to find a completely original Christmas market. In a town in Haut-Rhin, in Alsace, a market that is both authentic and unusual is causing a sensation among visitors.

It stands out from the others by being the Christmas elf market. It’s simple, visitors are amazed by the Alsatian decorations installed throughout the village. On the main square, there are the wooden elves’ houses, carefully decorated, and all around, around twenty chalets which highlight local crafts and regional specialties such as Bredala. This is the Turckheim Christmas market, a village also renowned for its vineyards and its historical heritage.

In addition to these decorations, you have various activities: the tour of the night watchman in period costume, who tells the history and legends of Alsace, Santa’s workshop, the reading of stories, the light projection in the evening which lights up the elves’ market, the treasure hunt, the culinary workshops and even the holiday songs. There is also a particular tradition, that of the Advent calendar. Every day at 5 p.m., the little bearers of light and period characters meet in front of the Advent calendar, symbolized by the wooden houses, to reveal a legend or tradition from Turckheim, told by a mysterious voice.

This typical market is held from November 29 to December 30, 2024. It is open every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (except December 24 when it closes at 6 p.m., and December 25). Several nights are still planned for December 14 and 21, 2024. Please also note that shuttles are available to transport visitors between Colmar, Turckheim and Munster on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until December 22 (Christmas Shuttle No. 4).
