This is the Jon Snow doppelganger in the opening of

Last night, the second season of House of the Dragon started with the episode A Son for a Son on local Sky and WOW. If you are wondering at the beginning of the episode who the hell the Jon Snow looking character who speaks to a character not unlike Ned Stark, we have the answer for you.

No, that wasn’t Jon Snow: The House of the Dragon series character from season 2 episode 1 finally explained

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before Game of Thrones and in this case has not included a flash-forward in which Jon Snow is seen in a new cast. Instead, the series character dressed in jet black with equally dark hair is a character already known from season 1:
Jacaerys Velaryonplayed by Harry Collett.

No wonder, though, if you didn’t recognize him right away. You can see how much the dragon rider prince has changed between seasons 1 and 2 of House of the Dragon (although hardly any time should have passed) here:

The also Jace, son of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) was sent to the north with his dragon in the first season finale to mobilize other houses for the war against Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and her son King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney). Among them is Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor), who is responsible for the wall to the even more dangerous north and rocks the same style as his future descendant Ned Stark (Sean Bean):

The seed is strong: That is why Jon Snow and Jace
Velaryon is so similar

The similarity between the two characters is due to the fact that Ned’s “bastard” from Game of Thrones is actually a secret Targaryen descendant with a valid claim to the throne. He is also related to the Starks, as Ned’s sister Lyanna was his mother. This led to the fan theory formula R + L = J (Rhaegar Targaryen + Lyanna Stark = Jon Snow), which was confirmed in the 8th season of GoT, but has yet to be confirmed in the book by George RR Martin.

Spoilers for the first season finale of House of the Dragon: While travelling north, Jace has no idea how much worse things are for his younger brother Lucerys (Elliot Grihault), who was supposed to get the support of House Baratheon. In doing so, he was thwarted by Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), whose dragon tore him to pieces in the air. An escalation of the conflict over the succession to the throne now seems inevitable.

Rhaenyra’s third son from her first marriage to Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan) is Joffrey, who is played by young actor Oscar Eskinazi in season 2. In addition, she has (had) three children with her current husband (and uncle) Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).
