This is the end of an era: traditional logos France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 will disappear, to be replaced by France.TV. A small revolution for public television, which adopts a new strategy.
There is a change on the side of public television! With the expiration of certain broadcasting authorizations in 2025, the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) upset the TNT landscape – Digital Terrestrial television – at the end of 2024 by cutting out the exclusion of certain channels and the arrival of news (see our article). So we said goodbye to C8 and NRJ12, and we will welcome from June 6 T18, which will offer documentaries, debates and entertainment. It will be followed by of TV, The Channel of the Press Group Ouest-Francewhich will arrive on September 1, 2025 on the channel 19.
But these are not the only changes. Indeed, Following the exclusion of C8, Vincent Bolloré’s group has decided to withdraw Canal+ from TNT paid. L‘Arcom took the opportunity to completely review the numbering of TNT channels by reaffecting the channels. For more coherence, the France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 channels will now occupy channels 2, 3, 4 and 5 – and Franceinfo will go from Canal 27 to Canal 16. More disturbing, the logos of these channels – the small figure displayed at the top right of the screen – will disappear from June 6, during the entry into force of the new numbering, to be replaced by “Unique media brand” France.TV, announced, Tuesday, March 25, the president of the Public Group France Télévisions, Delphine Ernotte Cunci. A change of size that could confuse viewers …
France.TV: a unique brand to compete with SVOD
No more the two, the three, the four and the five! But beware, Delphine Ernotte Cunci clearly specifies that these channels “are not brought to disappear”. Instead, viewers who will go to the latter will see the France.TV logo appear at the top right of the screen of their television post. However, there will be several exceptions: the news channel continues Franceinfo, the brand common to France 3 and France Bleu here, the youth offer of France 4 Ookoo, and overseas the first will be able to keep their own logo on the antenna.
But why such an upheaval? According to the president of France Télévisions, “Union is strength”. “Our whole challenge is to be recognized” In the era of applications and social networks. That the regulars have not fear, “We are not going to smooth the identities” of each chain, she says. It is a question of maintaining a fragile balance to both keep your audience faithful and seduce new (TV) spectators. Because, even if linear television is certainly not almost to disappear, it is increasingly competed with the streaming viewing. “On remote controls, chain numbers disappear. On smart TVs, which represent the vast majority of televisions sold, the French now have access to content by application entries”notes Delphine Ernotte Cunci.
Also, the different television groups have decided to launch, one after the other, their own streaming platform, like TF1+ and M6+. France Télévisions therefore wishes to do the same, and seems rather well left for that. Indeed, France.TV is the first free platform in France, with no less than 36 million unique monthly visitors. After joining Arte’s programs last year, she is preparing to welcome the highly appreciated contained in the INA by mid-2025, the political productions of the parliamentary and public Senate channel, as well as the contents of TV5 Monde and France 24. France.TV will therefore bring together the whole video offer of the public audiovisual.
