Koran burner Salwan Momika is dead.

Born in a Christian family in Iraq, he later became a member of a Shiite militia group.

In Sweden he supported the Swedish Democrats.

1. Burned the Qur’an 2023

Salwan Momika became known in 2023 when he burned the Qur’an on several occasions, along with Salwan Najem. Both came from Iraq. The Qur’an burns elicited strong reactions from Muslims in other countries, especially in Iraq, which among other things led to demonstrations outside the Swedish Embassy in Iraq.

2. Trial would be held in January 2025

Salwan Momika and his companion were charged with incitement against people as a result of the Qur’an burns. The trial against them would be held in January 2025. Salwan Momika was shot dead before the trial was held, on January 29, 2025. He turned 38.

3. Wanted to seek asylum in Norway

Salwan Momika described herself as a political refugee and was granted a three -year residence permit in Sweden in 2021. Three years later when he was expelled, Momika chose to go to Norway and seek asylum. He was arrested there and sent back to Sweden. A month later, in May 2024, Momika was granted a new residence permit in Sweden because he risked torture in Iraq.

4. A member of shiite militia group

Salwan Momika was born in a Christian family. In Iraq, he was a member of an Iran -supported Shiite militia group that was hostile to the Islamic State, IS. In Sweden, Momika supported the Swedish Democrats.

5. 164,000 followers at Tictok

Salwan Momika broadcast several hours a day at Tiktok, where he had 164,000 followers. As Aftonbladet went through his flow, it turned out to consist of serious criticism of Islam. In 2023, TikTok closed the possibility of sending donations to Momika.
