“This is probably the end”

A new update to GTA 5 has been released that brings an anti-cheat system. But not everyone likes the update: BattleEye is destroying the community of modders on the PC in GTA 5 Online. Or are they just cheaters?

This is the goal of the update: The new update 1.69 from September 17th has installed an anti-cheat system, BattlEye Anti-Cheat.

We already reported yesterday on MeinMMO that BattlEye is causing problems for users on Steam and the Steam Deck.

But things are even worse for a community of modders on the PC, because they offer a cheat tool that has become very popular.

One of the most popular mod menus for GTA 5 is probably coming to an end

That is the problem of the modders: As the site gamesradar reports, one collateral damage of the update is the users of “Kiddion’s Modest Menu”, which is used in GTA Online.

The menu makes it possible to get weapons or increase ammunition – that’s what cheats do in GTA 5.

But the creators of the tool say: “At the moment the future is very uncertain and it probably means the end for now.”

Some of the mods and mod menus may “never work again” and players will be kept updated. The tool is described as one of the most popular free mod menus for GTA 5 Online.

Some miss the tool, others are happy that it is being closed

How is this discussed? On Twitter, one user said he was happy that such a security risk was being closed. He didn’t care if hackers in GTA 5 gave each other infinite money or just made cars appear. But hackers who take control of PCs are a real problem.

Others are also happy that the community is being affected. They describe it as one of Rockstar’s “rare victories.” Again and again, you read comments in which people are expressly happy that “children who rely on cheats” are now having their day ruined. They need to finally learn to play “normally.”

But users also say that the software was extremely useful for them and they think it’s a shame that it’s disappearing.

While one Twitter user dryly remarks: That’s why he prefers pirated versions. You can use all the mods there and don’t need an internet connection.

What happens next? The update has only been live for a day now. The community is expecting that a tool could be released that deactivates the protection.

How do you see it? Are users of such a mod tool a community of their own and definitely worth protecting, or are they ultimately just cheaters who need to be fought and are you happy when they get their comeuppance?
