Utrecht continues with the bed-bath-bread shelter for rejected asylum seekers, despite the cabinet’s decision to stop the subsidy. The municipality will now pay for the shelter itself, with help from the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), to the delight of the asylum seekers themselves. “Without De Toevlucht, life would be very difficult for us.”
