This is how you will be affected if there is a train strike – the Öresund trains are the worst hit

Trade union Seko’s strike is planned to be carried out in three stages.

In the first step, which is planned for Thursday at 3 p.m., it is primarily Skåne that is affected.

If the strike becomes a reality, around 200 members around the country will go on strike. In Malmö, among other things, 80 out of a total of 100 train drivers are on strike at the company Transdev, which runs the Öresund trains to and from Copenhagen.

Total stop across the Öresund Bridge

The Öresund trains are the only trains that run between Malmö and Copenhagen, and the company announces that all train traffic over the bridge is cancelled. In addition to Copenhagen, Öresundstågen also runs to Gothenburg, Karlskrona and Kalmar, among other places.

Whether the other sections of the Öresund train will be affected within Sweden is currently unclear.

– What we have planned is the stretch over the bridge and that all so-called emergency trains to Helsingborg and Hässleholm are cancelled. Then individual departures run by Seko-affiliated train drivers can also be cancelled, says Jarl Samuelsson, CEO of Öresundstågen.

What advice do you have for travelers?

– If you are going to Denmark, the advice is to take the car, or the ferry via Helsingborg and Helsingör. Expect trips to generally take longer. Stay updated on which departures are canceled via our website and app, he says.

Some replacement buses should not be counted. Öresundstågen and Skånetrafiken have made the assessment that it would count as strike breaking.

The SJ trains may be affected

It is not only the Öresund trains that are at risk of being affected. SJ’s long-distance trains between Malmö and Stockholm may also be affected, as a number of vehicle attendants, repairmen and switchboard personnel are out on strike.

Already at the end of last week, SJ chose to block ticket sales for, among other things, the Malmö-Stockholm route from May 12 because it is feared that possible consequential delays may result from the strike.

However, those who already have tickets can currently count on the trains running as they should.
