It is almost two months until Christmas – and it is precisely two months in advance that many employers require in order to approve their employees’ holiday wishes.
And if you think about it, there is a chance to get 17 consecutive days of holiday over Christmas and New Year – by using only five holiday days.
This is how you get the maximum Christmas holiday in 2024
Within certain collective agreements, the employee has the right to be off and receive weekend pay on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and Thirteenth Day (January 6). In December 2024 and January 2025, almost all of these dates fall on weekdays, which means that the chances are good to get a lot of paid time off while using few vacation days.
Requesting time off on December 23rd and 27th gives a total of nine consecutive days off, from the 21st to the 29th. If you also take time off on the 30th and 2-3 January, the leave will be seventeen days long, i.e. between 21 December and 6 January.
This is how you know if you are entitled to leave
It is important to keep an eye on your collective agreement to know which days off you are entitled to. Therefore, check what applies in your collective agreement.
Some who are entitled to those days are, for example, those covered by the Construction Agreement, writes Byggnadsarbetaren.
