Getting into MMOs is difficult for you? We give you valuable tips that you can use to make a good first impression in any situation!

If you’re new to an MMORPG like World of Warcraft, SWTOR or The Elder Scrolls Online, it’s not that easy. As a loner, how do you find access to other players? How do you find a nice guild and make a good impression right away? We’re giving you a clear guide that’s guaranteed to have all other players dancing to your tune.

This article is originally from November 2017. It has since been updated.

The right start – the gold of others

Being completely new to an MMORPG is often a difficult experience. But it’s annoying to earn all the achievements yourself first. Therefore, at the beginning of your career, you should head straight for a large capital with many players and make your first impression right away: Ask for gold!

Use the general channel or a “yell” function here and do it regularly. If you don’t ask at least every 30 seconds, you’re not serious enough.

The entry-level gold wants to be well begged for!

It doesn’t matter whether it’s about the first mount, a better sword or simply more inventory space. Every player knows your problem and will immediately feel an empathetic connection with you. Through persistent begging (preferably even by opening a trade window directly, even before the first whispered sentence) you make friendships for life here. Because if you owe money to someone, they get in touch every few days of their own accord.

Claim loot for yourself

MMORPGs are all about the loot. In many games you have the option of passing on the equipment you have received to other players. When fancy loot drops in dungeons or raid instances, the happy ones are always great.

Here’s your chance to be extra accommodating! See that a fellow player has received an epic piece of gear? Immediately check if you could use the item. Then inspect your opponent’s character and see if the item would be an upgrade for them. That’s not the case? Act on that player immediately and demand that the item be returned.

A simple “Give me [Kettenhemd der dreisten Forderung]“ is enough. Don’t get carried away with clichéd words like “please” or “thank you” – MMORPGers don’t have much time and don’t want to read so many words.

Accept defeat!

As already mentioned, time is an important commodity for MMORPGlers and it wants to be used effectively. However, this can sometimes take a long time, especially in PvP battles. Your team didn’t get the “First Blood” or didn’t conquer the majority of the checkpoints after the start?

With that, of course, the battle is over! Ask your team to do it directly, but please don’t put up any more resistance so that the round is over as quickly as possible. Because everyone knows: Better a quick defeat than a long-winded fight. That would mean uncertainty in the end. With a “Typical Alliance”, “As always when you play with people from Aegwynn” or “It was so clear that the Republic would lose again” you make it clear to everyone that it’s not the fault of the opponents at all, but simply the wrong ones Choosing the faction – you’re not so sad anymore!

Give them valuable tips!

Once you’ve cleared the first hurdles and, thanks to the tips above, you’ve landed a solid group of players, then it’s time to generously give something back to your fellow players.

Give them assistance in hard content of the game! The villain stood in the fire effect of the dragon and died from it? Explain to her what the mistake was with a polite “Lunessa died in the fire.” No, not in the whisper channel. In the group channel, so that you know everything that happened. It would be a shame if someone was left confused!

But your duty doesn’t end there. You can collect more plus points in the following way:

Inspect your fellow players’ characters at every opportunity. Check carefully what equipment they are wearing and whether it is optimally enchanted. If you find gaps that you can fix yourself, point them out to the player immediately. Can you craft better gear or organize an enchantment? Terrific!

It is important that you never offer such services for free. Because then your fellow players will lose a large part of their self-esteem. The old rule applies here: “What costs nothing is nothing.” For prices, use the auction house cost as a guide and multiply by 1.5.

Give your teammates breaks

Time is a valuable commodity these days. More and more people suffer from stress and burnouts. They should at least be able to switch off a bit in their free time! If you lead an organized life, you can noticeably improve the lives of your fellow players. A long raid evening with 10-25 players starts at 8 p.m. and goes until midnight? Order your pizza exactly so that it arrives within the raid time – i.e. around 21:00. Because a healthy meal is important, your fellow players will be very understanding and will be happy to wait for you for half an hour.

They will surely thank you for those extra minutes of rest.

By the way, you get even more bonus points as a smoker. Just bang a “cigarette break!” into the chat and immediately go afk to enjoy the fag. The raid management will also be happy about five additional minutes of silence.

If you follow these tips, it will only take you a few days to have an awesome reputation on your server. This lays the foundation for many years of fun in the game.

If you’re too popular and don’t feel like playing anymore, you can just fake a broken arm – that’s always convincing!
