In Path of Exile 2, item trading has long been in full swing. We will explain to you how the trading system works and what you need to pay attention to.
How does trading work in Path of Exile 2? Just like in the predecessor, there is no auction house or similar where you can simply offer your items. Instead, you have to go to the developers’ special website (via pathofexile.com), which is where most of the trading takes place.
You can buy almost every item in the game on the website and upgrade your character, even if you always drop the wrong items from the boss. For example, you can also sell these via the website and earn currencies.
In order to trade there, you first need a “Path of Exile” account. If you don’t have one yet, create one and connect the platform on which you bought your game to it on pathofexile.com. It’s best to set the website to the language you have in the game using the flags at the top right so that you can directly find the items you are looking for.
A merchant in Path of Exile 2 is particularly useful:
This is how you buy items in Path of Exile 2
You can search or filter for items directly on the PoE2 trade page. These filters allow you to filter by values, types of items or even certain properties. For example, you can display all items that give you bonuses to Minions.
The filter with the requirements is also important, the ideal item for your build is of no use to you if you can only wear it for many hours of play because your level is not high enough or your stat values are too low.
If you have filtered for an item, you will see an overview like this:
If you have found an item that you want and the price listed on the right corresponds to your taste, you have to press the “Whisper Message” / “Direct Whisper” button. This is how you write a direct message to the seller in the game.
If the player is not AFK, he will usually invite you to the group. Accept this invitation and then visit the seller in his hideout by right-clicking on his icon and pressing the respective button.
If neither of you has a hideout yet, you must first agree on a meeting point for action. Most people choose the city from Act 1 here.
If you are in the same region, all you have to do is right-click on the player and press the Trade button. Place the payment in your field and wait for your counterpart’s item before confirming the trade. To be on the safe side, hover your mouse over the item and see that all values match. When you’re ready, confirm the deal.
This is how you sell an item in Path of Exile 2
In order to sell an item in Path of Exile 2 on the marketplace, you first need a premium trading slot. You can trade without it, but your items will not be listed on the official website, which significantly reduces the chances of a sale.
Before you start offering your items, you should set up your trading compartment correctly. To do this, open the storage compartment settings by right-clicking on the name. Set the compartment to “Public” and ideally choose the “Individual price per item” setting.
Place the item you want to sell in your premium trading compartment and right-click on it. Here you can then specify a price based on negotiation or a fixed price. Usually the prices for items in Path of Exile 2 are given in “Exalted Orbs”.
Once you have given an item a price, it will appear on the public trading website shortly afterwards. Be sure to pay attention to the chat to see when a potential buyer contacts you.
When a buyer contacts you, invite them to the group and meet in the Hideout. If you are in the same region, all you have to do is right-click on the player and press the Trade button. Place the item in your field and wait for your counterpart to pay before confirming the trade. To be sure, hover your mouse over the payment and see that everything is correct. When you’re ready, confirm the deal.
Is there anything else to consider? Be sure to be careful when trading. Especially when you buy items, it happens that other players want to trick you and put an item with different values in the trading window.
Furthermore, trading with gold is not possible. This currency is used almost exclusively for trading with NPCs and is not intended for trading items via the website.
When selling, you should definitely first look at how expensive comparable items are and then offer your items at this price. If you are too cheap, you will quickly notice it through a flood of inquiries. If no one responds for too long, you should offer your item at a cheaper price.
Especially if you have problems in a boss fight and don’t feel like grinding for hours, an additional item from another player can make all the difference. Some players find it problematic that it takes too long for some things in the game: If a mechanic stays in Path of Exile 2, there will be a big problem when it is released, the community believes
