Reflux is defined as the escape of stomach contents into the esophagus after a person eats. Reflux is a disease seen with chest and back pain, difficulty in swallowing, nausea, vomiting, bad taste and odor in the mouth. Obesity, increased intra-abdominal pressure, delayed gastric emptying, gastric hernia, alcohol consumption, smoking and genetic reflux are the factors that cause reflux.
