This is how you bring back the old interface

The new interface is causing problems for many World of Warcraft players. We reveal how you can bring back the old look as much as possible.

With Patch 10.0, many innovations have arrived in World of Warcraft and not all of them are well received by the players. Above all, the new interface causes problems, because it tears long-time veterans out of their usual everyday life and forces them to deal with it more. Some functions are also a bit hidden and make it more frustrating than fun. We reveal how you can largely restore the “old” interface – and how you can also customize the chat.

The “Edit Mode” allows more adjustments, but also presents new problems.

This is how you restore the “classic” WoW interface

While the modern interface design is what’s used by many other recent MMORPGs, it’s not what WoW veterans have grown accustomed to for 18+ years. Luckily, the old look can be largely restored without having to make a lot of fine-tuning.

  • Simply press the Escape key and select “Edit Mode”.
  • At the top left you will now see a drop-down menu called “Layout”.
  • Select “Classic (default)” here.
  • While this isn’t fully the classic look, most objects are back in their original positions. The character portrait is back in the top left, as is your current objective’s indicator. Of course, the design can also be further adjusted to bring back even more of the “old” interface…

A lot can be adjusted in the new interface.

Meanwhile, the colleagues from wowhead have tried to bring back even more of the classic design and created an individual interface for it. Luckily, you can just copy code and paste it into World of Warcraft to do this, so there’s very little work to do.

Simply open the “Editing mode” again and select “Import” from the drop-down menu. A large input window appears there, in which you simply enter this code from wowhead:

You can then make small fine adjustments yourself, which are adapted to your resolution or the size of the monitor, for example.

This is how you can enlarge the chat window

Especially the chat window in World of Warcraft is something that many fans use rather flexibly. While keeping it rather small in dungeons or raids, in capitals or RP you can enlarge the chat to have more space for text. But this is no longer possible directly in the chat window, but must also be done via the “Edit Mode”.

Then move your mouse over your chat window. There you can see a hatched triangle symbol at the bottom right, which unfortunately is difficult to see in the color scheme. With a click on it you can change the size of the chat window while playing.

The triangle is difficult to see.

This is a little more cumbersome, since you always have to switch to edit mode first. But if you know how it works, it’s also a move that only takes about 5 seconds.

What do you think of the new interface and customization options? Good and useful innovations? Or is it all cumbersome and no longer as beautiful as “back then”?

We have shown you how the new talent trees work here.
