During a press conference on the occasion of the announcement, British Prime Minister Liz Truss says that Britain has grown and prospered under the Queen’s leadership.
– It is a big shock for the nation and the world, she says.
– The queen gave us stability and strength in wet and dry conditions.
The Queen’s son Prince Charles said in a statement that the Queen’s death will affect the entire country, the Commonwealth and countless people around the world.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres writes that he is deeply saddened by the Queen’s passing.
“She was a good friend to the UN and a calming presence through decades of change,” he writes.
French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on Twitter that the Queen “embodied the continuity and unity of the British nation for over 70 years”.
“I remember her as a friend to France, a kind-hearted queen who has left a lasting impression on her country and her century,” he continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky writes:
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of the Ukrainian people, we express our sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the whole of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin also sends condolences to the British royal family via Twitter:
“My deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Great Britain and the Commonwealth. Our thoughts go out to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s family and loved ones,” she writes.
