Did you have time to bask in the summer heat today?

Lucky – for the next few days the weather seems more unsettled.

– The very warmest air seems to be pushed away now, says Mattias Lind, meteorologist at SMHI.

September 21 – and over 20 degrees in many places in the southern half of Sweden.

Anyone who was lucky enough to be outside on Thursday was guaranteed to have summer feelings.

– Yes, quite large parts of the country have been relatively warm. Up to Sundsvall somewhere, it has been somewhere around 20 degrees, says Mattias Lind, meteorologist at SMHI.

In Småland’s Målilla, which often claims the title of hottest in Sweden, a whopping 25.2 degrees were measured.

– It is the only station in Sweden today that reached over 25 degrees and thus had a high summer temperature, says Max Lindberg Stoltz, meteorologist at SMHI, to The barometer.

A snow warning was issued in Kiruna

North of Sundsvall, however, there have been great contrasts.

A yellow warning for snowfall in the western part of Kiruna and Gällivare municipality remains until 11 pm tonight.

– There is a front over northern Sweden, north of the front it is completely different weather. Up towards the Norrland coast we have about 5–10 degrees, but in Boden only 5–6 degrees, says Mattias.

Warm end of the month

Friday looks likely to bring rain over large parts of the country.

And this weekend, sun is expected to alternate with rain in most places.

– The very warmest air seems to be pushed away now, but the temperatures are still quite high. It can reach up to 20 in eastern Götaland and eastern Svealand. But it’s a little more unstable and can get quite a few showers.

A lot of rain is expected in northern Sweden, which will likely melt away the snow in Kiruna.

But there doesn’t seem to be any autumn-like cold for a while.

– At the beginning of the week, it looks like it will continue to be quite high temperatures for the time of year and quite a lot of sun. As for Norrland, right at the beginning of next week it looks to be a bit unstable and not quite as warm.
