Freezing rain and a treacherous lightning sleet lay across the country on Saturday.

The yo-yo weather could cause icy roads along parts of the E4.

– It is important to be careful out on the roads, says meteorologist Sverker Hellström.

So will the weather where you live

Changeable weather will continue over the weekend. Therefore, SMHI has issued several yellow weather warnings for sudden icy conditions in central Sweden.

– Typical November and December weather will be offered as it will alternate between hot and cold. Snowfall will turn into rain, which will freeze the roads and cause very slippery roads, says SMHI’s Sverker Hellström.

Rain, sleet, snow

Already early on Saturday morning, lightning storms are expected to cause problems in traffic.

– So if you are going out on the roads, you should expect that the journey will take longer than usual. The weather will probably also affect public transport.

The yellow weather warnings apply to southern Norrland, Hälsingland, Ångermanland, Härjedalen and southern Jämtland.

– What will happen is that the rain is warmer than zero degrees, but it will still not freeze until it reaches the ground. Therefore, the roads will be lightning slippery.

But already on Sunday, the lightning storm will be as if blown away, according to Sverker Hellström.

– At the end of the weekend, we will see an area of precipitation in northernmost Sweden, but then in the form of snowfall. In addition to that, the weather will become milder and you can generally expect around five degrees in large parts of the country.

Then it gets hot

After the weekend, however, it may be time to put the winter clothes in the back of the closet – at least for a single day.

According to the forecast, mild weather will flow in over most of the country.

– Yes, then you can count on a good five to ten plus degrees over large parts of Sweden. But the mild weather doesn’t last any longer, because on Tuesday it turns again.

Sverker Hellström continues:

– Then it will be colder than it is expected to be this weekend. You can expect around zero to five minutes degrees in Götaland and Svealand. But maybe ten to 20 minus in the north. It depends a little on the winds and whether the weather will be clear or not.
