The Netflix charts are still dominated by the action comedy Back in Action. But what about a sequel for the streaming hit with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx as reactivated agents and spouses?
And how does director Seth Gordon plan to solve the problem that the two kids Alice (McKenna Roberts) and Leo (Rylan Jackson) will visibly age between films?
Back in Action 2: Time jump and Grandpa in the potential Netflix sequel
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, filmmaker Gordon said this about child growth issues:
I think we would honor the truth about the timeline of their lives and show a different event for both of them, like later in high school.
A jump in time, which means that the young stars don’t have to be replaced by even younger replacements. The whole thing suits Gordon’s Back in Action 2 plans very well anyway, because unlike Emily and Matt the promising children of the agent couple are at the center of the sequel stand.
In addition to the offspring, other family back-in-action additions have also been teased for a possible sequel. This takes place in the last minutes of the film, when (twist!) we are not talking about action grandma Ginny (Glenn Close) on a mission, but rather the father/grandfather, who has not yet been shown.
However, Back in Action 2 has not yet been officially commissioned. Gordon continued:
There are definitely ideas about who the dad could be and what the whole story could be about. [Netflix] but doesn’t even acknowledge the idea of a sequel! So if you put in a good word, there might be a chance.
Back in Action has been streaming since then January 17, 2025 on Netflix and has already been at number 1 on the service’s film charts in 93 countries.
