This is how the Church of Sweden in Örebro resolves burials after the cyber attack

The Church of Sweden does not want to disclose what the attackers requested as a ransom, according to SVT Nyheter Helsingborg. However, they will not pay, but have reported the incident to the police.

– I know that we chose not to pay any money, I think that is right because we should not in any way favor a system like this, says Helene Niklasson, head of information services at the Church of Sweden.

Unable to update website

After the attack, the church is still unable to update its website. Instead, the information goes out on social media.

– Our core business of worship, youth activities, concerts can be conducted as usual. We also know that it is not an attack against us that has ideological or religious motives, but could hit any company or other large organization, says Helene Niklasson.

In the clip, you can hear her tell about how they have managed to solve funerals in Örebro.

Does not accept bookings for baptisms and weddings

When it comes to baptisms and weddings, the church is waiting to accept bookings at the moment. The hope is instead that the systems will have time to get started.

– We hope it will be over soon, she says.

Problems with burials

Funerals must take place within one month of the person’s death. The funeral itself can be held, what is a problem in many parts of Sweden is rather the burial itself. Namely, they have to keep track of who is already in existing graves, such as family graves, in order to bury new ones.
