After a draw and two victories, Sweden emerged victorious from the group stage. On Friday evening, it was Belgium who stood as a quarter-final opponent on Blågult’s path to EC gold.
Despite several covid breaks, it was still Blågult who took command and kept it throughout the match.
After 25 minutes, Arsenal star Stina Blackstenius was released and safely placed the ball behind the Belgian goalkeeper, but after a VAR check, the referee blew for offside.
During the remainder of the first half, it was then the Swedes who had the most ball and who created the most – without getting the ball in.
A convulsive second half with massive Swedish possession was finally crowned by a goal in the last minute of the match when Linda Sembrant raked the ball in after a corner. Sweden thus wins the match 1-0.
The EC semi-final against the host nation England awaits on Tuesday.
