Sweden’s home games ended in severe disappointment in the World Cup final, when the biggest champion favorite USA celebrated the championship with a 6–2 victory.
The USA scored three goals in Sweden’s net in the third period. The previous US championship was from 2021.
The silver medal was Sweden’s 12th in history. In the Swedish media, the defeat was full of disappointed headlines.

– Golden dream shattered – Sweden fell heavily in the final, SVT, on the other hand, wrote.
The defeat also hurt the Swedish team.
– It’s sad. It’s never nice to lose, especially in the final against a team like this that is so really good. This is fucked up, Captain Liam Ohgren stated in an ice interview for SVT.
The loss hurt the Swedes so much that a fight broke out on the field half a minute before the final buzzer. A total of four players received a ten-minute conduct penalty.
– I understand that the feelings are on the surface, but this is just sad, SVT expert Jonas Andersson stated about the fights.
US players Gabe Perreault and Frank Nazar explained the final moments of the match to Urheilu.
– We were already waiting to celebrate, but then it started happening. This shouldn’t happen at the end of the game, but it happened that way now, Perreault stated.
– This is hockey, situations get heated. You get angry when you’re about to lose. I have nothing against those guys, Nazar said.
Perreault fulfilled his childhood dream with the world championship.
– This was a crazy final. The hall was full.
