Heavy security, “ordinary people” from Värmland in the rows of benches – and international celebrity guests.
This is how Sven-Göran Eriksson’s funeral will be.
When
Friday, September 13 at 10 a.m.
Where
Sven-Göran Eriksson will be buried in Fryksände church in Torsby, where he grew up. The church – built in Neo-Gothic style – was inaugurated in 1898 and has room for 600 visitors.
According to “Svenni’s” agent Bo Gustavsson the church will be full and for those who cannot fit in the rows of pews, a large screen will be set up outside.
The ceremony
Sven-Göran Eriksson’s wish was for the ceremony to be a popular and happy moment. Afterwards, the procession goes from the church to a homestead.
The music will be performed by the Torsby brass and draws inspiration from New Orleans – another tribute to the now deceased football coach.
– When “Svennis” was in Sampdoria, the president died there and his funeral was something he was impressed by. It was happy, New Orleans jazz was playing and there were a lot of people along the streets. He wanted something similar, said Bo Gustavsson earlier in September.
At the homestead, the day ends with a speech. One of the speakers is the author and childhood friend Bengt Berg.
– I will try to draw sentences about him as a person. Something that must be included is that he often said that it is beautiful. As a positive fanfare and he was a life enjoyer who took the turns, says Bengt Berg.
The guests
A large number of the guests at the funeral are expected to be “ordinary people” from Värmland. Something “Svennis” was sure he wanted.
At the same time, one or two famous faces will appear – even if the official guest list is not made public for security reasons.
It is speculated that David Beckham is coming. The English superstar – who visited “Svennis” in Värmland this summer – was the team captain of the English national team led by Eriksson.

“I will be forever grateful that you made me your captain, but I will forever hold these last memories of that day with you and your family. Thank you Sven, your last words to me were: it will be okay,” Beckham wrote on Instagram in connection with Sven-Göran Eriksson’s death on August 26.
The security
According to the police, there is no concrete threat to the event. At the same time, attention is paid to the fact that anything can happen and extra resources have been called in from other parts of the county as well.
Parallel to the funeral, Torsby market starts – which means additional people in circulation.
– It can be anything from 500-600 up to a few thousand. It is unique that we are involved in a funeral in this way. But a funeral is also a public gathering and we have experience in planning that, says Morgan Olssonhead of police operations in Torsby to TT.

– We know that there will be famous people, and of course we have to take that into account.
Central Torsby will be partially closed.
The time has come to say goodbye to a real legend in football. Sven-Göran Eriksson did something no other Swede has come close to doing.
